Dieting, controlling one’s dietary intake to improve one’s physical health, especially for the purpose of reducing obesity, or what is conceived as excess body fat.

Dietary plans are based on reducing any of the macronutrients (fats, carbohydrates , and proteins) that constitute the major portions of the food a person eats (other than water) and that are needed energy sources.

Types of Diets?

People diet for all kinds of reasons as there’s no shortage of reasons to want a healthier life. There are also a wide variety of choices when it comes to selecting a diet that might work for you. Here is a closer look at some of the different types of diets that people are using all around the world.

1.The Paleo Diet

tHis is a natural way of eating, one that almost quits all sugar intake. Fruit is the only fat in a Paleo diet. Abandoning sugar isn’t the only stipulation, though. The Paleo diet also eliminates the processed foods and grains. The less carbohydrates in your body contribute to decreased glucose levels. So then your system will start using fat as its source of fuel. The dairy is also eliminated in a Paleo diet. So what to eat? A Paleo diet consists of fish, fowl, vegetables, fruits, nuts, oils, sweet potatoes, eggs and meat, so long as that meat is grass-fed and not grain-fed.

2. The Blood Type Diet

Some doctors have started researching diets which coincide with specific types of blood. The concept of these diets, based on their blood type, aims to align people with their common dietary needs. For starters, people with type O blood are advised to eat lots of high protein foods. Spinach, red meat , seafood and broccoli are suggested to lose weight whilst avoiding dairy. Type A blood users are advised to avoid meat and concentrate on pork, tofu, and fruit while weight loss relies on consuming a diet consisting mainly of soy, fish , and vegetables. Individuals with blood type B and AB also have dietary restrictions of their own.

3.The Vegan Diet

This diet is a form of vegetarian diet, as meat and animal products are excluded. One of the primary effects of this diet is that it lowers cholesterol intake and saturated fat. It takes some preparation but it can have several beneficial results if a vegan diet is rationed out properly. Studies have shown that those who practise a vegan diet minimise their risk of coronary heart disease, obesity and high blood pressure overall. To make up for a meat shortage, vegans need to find a way to incorporate more protein and vitamin B-12 sources into their diets.

4.The South Beach Diet

First launched in 2003, this diet is based on the idea of improving one ‘s overall eating habits by balancing out one’s daily diet. Some carbohydrates are avoided to the full. It does not completely eliminate carbohydrates but aims at educating dietitians on which carbs to always avoid. This also contributes to the creation of a balanced eating way to make things healthier for the rest of people’s lives. The diet encompasses a selection of healthy fats, lean protein and good carbs.

5.The Mediterranean Diet

It is another form of vegetable-heavy diet that avoids a lot of meat but doesn’t completely remove it. In addition to controlling blood sugar levels and helping with weight loss this diet has been proven to help with depression. The Mediterranean diet advocates as much oil as possible and this means as an alternative to butter, salad dressings or marinades. It also stresses the addition of vegetables to each meal, and favours fish over chicken. Whole grains, nuts and herbs are also used in larger amounts.
